Regulated Activities
Some events, and some activities that take place within an event, may require a licence from the South Norfolk District Council. The council has published a helpful booklet containing useful guidance on the topic.
In the main this relates to events/activities involving one or more of the following :
large events - 500 or more attendees (including staff)
noisy events - involving music and/or amplified sound
late at night (between 11pm and 8am)
alcohol
live performance of music, drama, or dance
performance (or playing) of broadcast or recorded music, dance, drama, and visual media (eg film, tv, video, computer game)
contentious activities including gambling (including lotteries), martial arts, (semi-)nudity such as strip-tease or burlesque, or artwork involving naked models
Temporary Events Notice (TEN)
Thorpe Hall is a community facility with a main hall that has a maximum capacity of 500 people standing in the main hall. Most bookings will run during our normal business hours between 8am and 10pm only. So most bookings will NOT need to apply for a Temporary Events Notice (TEN) from the council.
In case you need one however, you should note the following:
(As of 2022) each costs appx. £21 per occasion
you should apply to the council in writing 10 clear working days in advance of your event. The council allows as little a 5 working days notice but we need at least 7 to approve your booking.
you should keep a paper copy of the licence to hand during your event in case you need to produce it
Alcohol Licence
Events which include the provision and/or serving of alcohol will require a bar licence. This includes events with a free or cash bar or where alcohol is included in the price of admission
